Hockey Card Drinking Game
A pretty popular game in colleges that requires an even number of players, a deck of cards, and a drink by your side. The game is usually played with 4 players, but can be played with more. We are using 6 players in the example below.
How To Play
Overview
- The table is split up into 2 even teams by alternating teams by each seat position. In the above example, we have a Red and a Green team.
- Deal the entire deck to all the players. Depending on the number of players, some may have 1 more card then everyone else (because the cards cannot be divided equally).
- The person with the 3 Of Clubs leads the first card at the start of the period (they do not have to lead the 3 Of Clubs however).
Playing
- Play goes clockwise around the table where each person lays one card at a time and tries to match the card that was just previously played. If they can match the card, their team scores. If they cannot match the card, they want to play a card that they don't think the person ahead of them has (so the other team doesnt score).
- Example: Using the image above, if Sam plays a 7, Bob wants to play a 7 to score. If Bob does not have a 7, he wants to play a card he doesn't think Joe will have.
- Additionally, Jacks and Eights are safe cards that no-one can score on. Safe cards cannot be played on other safe cards. Safe cards also cannot be lead the play after a team has scored.
- When a team scores, the cards are drawn in towards the scoring player and the other team drinks (be sure to keep each score pile separated so the scores can be added later). Each person on the team that just got scored on starts drinking until the person on their left tells them to stop. Play then resumes with the next player as usual.
- Once all cards are gone, the period is over and the points are added up. There are 3 periods total, and the team with the most points at the end wins.
