Beer Pong Drinking Game and Rules
Beer Pong (also known as Beirut) is probably the most popular drinking game played on college campuses and at house parties. Some houses have Beer Pong Tournaments, while others may have a ‘Winners Stay’ rule. There are many slight variations of rules which are usually determined by the house hosting the party. Not only is the game fun to play, but it is fun to watch as well.
22 plastic cups, 2 ping pong balls, and a ping pong table (or table of similar length and height) are needed to play this game.
How To Play
![]() | Beer Pong is played with 2 teams consisting of 2 people per team. Each team is on one side of the table with 10 cups formed in the shape of a triangle and each cup filled 1/4 the way up with beer. The goal of the game is to elimate all of your opponents cups before the cups on your side of the table are eliminated. Beer Pong is a turn based game where one team is shooting, and the other is defending. Both players on a team shoot their ball before the other team gets to shoot. Wash cups are used to clean the ping pong balls after each shot. |
![]() | This is the basic Beer Pong shot where a player shoots it across the table. If the ping pong ball goes in the cup, one of the players on the defending team removes the cup and drinks all the beer in it. If both players on the same team make a shot in the same turn, both cups are removed and the shooting team gets to shoot again! This is called 'Bring Em Back'. |
![]() | Players can try to bounce the ball in. If the ball goes in a cup, then 2 cups are removed from the defending team instead of just 1! As soon as the ping pong ball hits the table, the defending team is allowed to swat the ball away. Any cups knocked over while attempting to swat a ball get removed from the table as a penalty. Tip: We suggest bouncing the ball only if the other team is not paying attention or if the other team has a lot more cups left than you do. |
![]() | Sometimes instead of going straight into the beer, the ping pong ball rapidly circles around the inside of the cup without ever touching the beer. When this happens, the defending team can blow down inside of the cup in hopes of blowing the spinning ball out of the cup. |
![]() | When the number of cups on a given side of the table are reduced to 6,4,3, and 2, the throwing team can request a 'Re-Rack'. The diagram to the left shows what shapes each Re-Rack is formed into depending on the number of cups remaining. The advantage of a Re-Rack is that it is easier to hit a shot because the cups are closer together. |
