Asshole (President) Drinking Game
Asshole (also known as President) is a fun card game to play with 4 or more players. It requires strategy and skill. At the end of each game, players are assigned a political role and depending on their role, they have special authority over players of a lesser role effective for the next game. The object of the game is to be the first person to play all of the cards in their hand which makes them the President.
Card Values:
In this game, cards hold the same rank as in poker with Aces being high. The exception is that 2's are clearing cards, and 3's are wild. There are no straits, flushes, full houses, etc. It is just a pair based game. You can use as many wild cards as you want on a single turn.
Example: 3-3-7-7 counts as four 7s.
Setup:
Shuffle and deal out a card to each player until the entire 52 card deck is gone. Play begins with the person to the left of the dealer.
Player’s Turn:
A player may lead a single card, a pair, three of a kind, or four of a kind, etc… all the way up to Eight of a kind, using the cards in their hand as well as wild cards. Play then goes clockwise around the table where players must do one of the following for their turn:
Play the same number of cards of higher value to the last play.
Example: If the last play was a pair of 7s, the player must play a pair of 8s, 9s, 10s, Jacks, Queens, Kings, or Aces. They cannot lay Three 8s because they must play the same number of cards (with the exception of the next rule)
Play cards that have the same value, but are one pair higher.
Example: If the last play was a pair of 7s, the player can play Three 7s.
Play the same number of cards with the same value
Example: If the last play was a pair of 7s, the player can play a pair of 7s as well. When this happens, the next person's turn is skipped, and play resumes with the next player after that.
Play a 2 as a clearing card. The player takes in all the cards and then gets to lead.
Pass. The player does not play any cards and must drink.
Play continues to go around the table until someone plays a hand that and everyone else passes on. When this happens, the cards are cleared away (set aside) and the person who played the high hand then gets to lead. The advantage of leading is that you are getting rid of your cards faster.
Once all but one player has cards remaining, the game is over.
Political Roles:
President:
The first person who plays all of their cards is the winner and becomes the president effective immediately. The President has the power to make any other player at the table drink on command. People usually are extra nice to the President in hopes that he or she does not make them drink. The President will be the first person to lead for the next game.
Vice President:
The next player to play all of their cards becomes the Vice President. They can make any other player at the table drink except for the President. If the President ever feels that the Vice President is handing out too many drinks, he can keep them in check by making them drink as well!
Asshole:
The Asshole is the only player who still has cards in their hand at the end of the game. It’s their responsibility for getting drinks for anyone at the table. They are also responsible for clearing cards (whenever a 2 is played, or when everyone at the table passes and a new lead begins). As soon as cards need to be cleared and the Asshole does not do so immediately, players at the table slowly count up from one until the asshole clears the cards away. Once the cards are cleared, the Asshole must drink the number that people have counted up to. The Asshole also shuffles and deals the cards for the next game.
